The Land of Bisons – Zambriceni (VIDEO)
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Our imaginary journey through the villages of Moldova continues with a picturesque village, which is located at a distance of 216 km from Chisinau, Zabriceni village.
The legend of the village is a testimony to the fact that this territory, in the past, was the land of bisons. It is said that many centuries ago a father of five sons would be settled down on these picturesque and welcoming territories. One day they went on hunting and hunted a bison, the head of the animal they have set up in a stake in the court of household, and the name of the locality originated from that bison (Eng. bison= Rom. zimbru) haunted by them.
The forests around the village, which were much more extensive several centuries ago, were the natural habitat of bisons that became the symbol of the Country of Moldova.
Today, unfortunately, about bisons more is talked in legends and can still be seen at special farms.
The locality Zabriceni consists of two villages, the village Zabriceni and village Onesti. Although these two villages do not have a visible border between them, the inhabitants of this locality will say with pride and Onestians and Zambricenians, celebrating the days dedicated to their village separately, each with his feast.
The locality is attested documentary in 1429 April 19, but archaeological traces found on the territory of the village proved that the land has been inhabited since the Paleolithic, 200,000-300,000 years ago.
The village has a museum where are kept the archaeological vestiges discovered on this territory, but also many archaic objects made by the villagers.
In the village Onesti today there is the mansion of madam Manea, a lady with great influence at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. After her death in the building of her house was established the mayoralty of the village, but finally it remained deserted.
Thanks to the persistence of the priest Irimita, in the village there was built a high school, which serves until today as a place where children enter in the world of knowledge.
With every visited village and town, we once again prove that Moldova is a corner of heaven waiting to be visited and improved.
