The first public chessboard inaugurated at Chisinau

Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the National Chess Academy in Moldova inaugurated yesterday, August 8th, the first public chessboard in Chisinau. It is located in the square of Birth of Christ Cathedral, has the size of 4mx4m, is made of wood and all its components were polished to be resistant to different weather conditions.

“The initiative came from two youngsters with big heart and the City Hall gave full support for this project to be realized”, said the Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca.

At the end of the event, the International Master Viorel Iordachescu with the student of the Academy Constantin Plesca, on the one hand, and the Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca with the student of the Academy Valentina Verbin, on the other hand, played the first game of chess on the public chessboard in the Cathedral.
