The dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch" sold
Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- Downright mythical dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch", which greatly contributed to the formation of the sex symbol image, was sold at auction in Beverly Hills for a small fortune - 5.52 million dollars, an amount which shattered expectations of the organizers of the auction, according to AFP.
Once white dress, now cream rather due to the passage of years, was worn by the actress in the film "The Seven Year Itch" by Billy Wilder, film released in 1955. Estimated amount before the auction was about $ 2 million, but the dress sold for not less than 5.52 million dollars.
The dress, made by American dresser William Travolta, was part of a private collection of American actress Debbie Reynolds.
Along with this dress were auctioned and other objects from the collection of Debbie Reynolds, including dresses worn by Marilyn Monroe in other movies. Following the tender was awarded the sum of 22.8 million dollars.
Debbie Reynolds, 79 year old, was another star of the movie, began collecting costumes and other souvenirs from the '70s Hollywood when MGM studios have liquidated assets. Its collection includes over 3,500 costumes, 20,000 photographs, thousands of original movies posters of time and hundreds of other decorative objects.
The sale of the second part of the collection will take place in December.
