The Deepest Gorge in Moldova (VIDEO)

By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- The west side of the republic, on the estate of the village Buzdugeni, in Edinet, for thousands of years the river Racovat creates a masterpiece of nature – the highest and the most spectacular gorge of the country.

In any season you will venture on the lands of Buzdugeni, if you look on the river’s meander through the rocks of the canyon, your heart will leap of excitement and pleasure. These places cannot leave anyone unaffected.
Climbing lovers will be pleasantly surprised by the cliffs, which can give true satisfactions. The view from the top that opens to you over the work of the river Racovat is sensational, anywhere you look.

The steep canyon cliffs hide caves that served as houses for our ancestors of 40.000 years ago. The archaeologists effectuated excavations in the caves near the village Buzdugeni and found bones of animals, objects made of flint, charcoal etc. Some animal bones have scratches on the surface and polished sides, which indicates their use as work tools.

In another investigated cave on the bluff of Racovat was discovered a settlement of a human dwelling older than 12 thousand years BC. Here were found flint objects, animal bones typical for Upper Paleolithic era.

The first village inhabited by sedentary farmers and cattle breeders was formed here in the third millennium BC. Then later, there was formed another one. Both villages burned, the next settlement being reformed just in 1400, which resisted until XVIII century. The old ruins of the settlement are kept until today.

The today village, located at 22 km in the west of Edinet and Chisinau, is documentary attested on April 29, 1672, in a document kept in Municipal Science Museum Archive in Iasi.

With a splendid nature and a millenary history, village Buzdugeni has the right to be presented in the travel plan of every lover of adventure.
