The citizens of Balti have celebrated the Declaration of Unification of Basarabia with Romania, adopted by the Zemstva from Balti 90 years ago
The 90th anniversary since the adoption by the Zemstva of Baltiului of the Declaration of Unification of Basarabia with Romania has been celebrated in Balti. On this occasion, the artistic events brought together historians and artists, people working in the cultural field from Balti and Chisinau. The representatives of the local authorities didn't come to the events, DECA-press transmits.
The poet Nicolae Dabija, present at the ceremony of bringing flowers to Stefan the Great's Monument from Balti, declared that the first Basarabians who, 90 years ago, expressed their wish to join Romania were the citizens of Balti. “It is important to remember the generation of Balti politicians and intellectuals from that time, who had more luck than we have”, Nicolae Dabija also said.
The president of the Association of Historians from the Republic of Moldova, Gheorghe Paladi, noticed that it is the right moment to discuss about the Great Union in Balti, because, in comparison with our times, long a go, Balti was a real centre of Romanian culture.
“To celebrate the day of March 3rd, we have organized scientific conferences with the participation of historians from Chisinau and teachers and pupils from the locality, as well as a contest of essays about the Great Union for pupils and students. We were suprised to see that over one hundred young people participated at the contest of essays, which proves their great interest towards important events from our history”, one of the organizers of the actons, the teacher of history Vasile Dobrogeanu added. // DECA-Press
