Swedish customs officials and Polish police nab cocaine consignment
Stockholm (dpa) - A joint operation conducted by Swedish customs officials and Polish police has led to the seizure of some 1.1 tons of cocaine, Swedish customs officials said Wednesday.
The consignment, currently being tested at a Swedish laboratory, was described as one of the largest to date in Sweden. The drugs were seized earlier December in the Swedish west coast city of Gothenburg in a container shipped from Venezuela.
The shipment was apparently intended for the Polish port of Szczecin where three suspects have been arrested by Polish police. No arrests have been reported in Sweden.
The street value of the seized drugs was estimated at some 100 million dollars. // © 2006 DPA
