Sightseeing in Moldova: Saharna - a place for soul silence
Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- A rocky, forested defile of the small Saharna river, a monastery rising as a jewel from the green forests and the stunning quiet, induces you to think about eternity, compassion, melancholy and beauty.

The historic core of the monastery's foundation was the old Saharna cave hermitage, which possibly dates the XIV century.
The hermitage can be visited today by tourists, being only 200 m from the present Saharna monastery.
The history of its building is unclear and haunted by a legend that tells that an old monk of the hermitage was shown the image of the Virgin Mary, on a high Saharna rock, who, according to the legend, has left her mark in the stone.
Due to the testimony of the "divine purity" of this land, the building of a wooden church started in 1777, which was later rebuilt in stone and decorated in the old Moldovan style with rich murals.
The relics of St. Macarii, unique in the republic, are inside the monastery, that became occasion of pilgrimage for the Orthodox Christians.
The Virgin's footprint, left on one of the rocks above the monastery, according to the legend, is the curiosity and tourist attraction of the place, visited by many guests.
Besides the beauty and spiritual richness of the Saharna County, the landscape delights visitors due to the presence of spectacular waterfalls and the spectacular Saharna thresholds.
Nowadays, the river has no longer its past flow, historical records show that there would have been 22 waterfalls on this territory. Less cascades remained today, but the history and the time passing by did not harm the beauty of the place, on the contrary, they added it an enigmatic touch.
Thus, Saharna is the prefect place where you can quietly lay on the grass up the hill next to the monastery, to savor the moment and enjoy the beauty of the place.
