Sightseeing in Moldova: Codri - Moldova's lungs

Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- At a maximum altitude of 130-383m, in the north-west of the Central Moldavian Plateau, an area with temperate continental climate, between the Prut and Dniester, Moldova's green treasure is situated - the "Codri" natural reserve.
"Codri" is the oldest scientific reserve in the Republic of Moldova, established on 27 September 1971.
The nature here is impressive by the various species and forms, many of which are endangered.
One thousand species of plants, 43 species of mammals, 145 species of birds, 7 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians and 10 species of insects are under national protection, a real "Natural Museum".
The reserve is divided into three main areas:
• the strictly protected area (720 ha) - the nucleus of the reserve is the habitat of rare fauna of universal significance;
• the buffer zone (4 445.8 ha), which surrounds the strictly limited area, aimed to protect it from human activity;
• the transition area (12,300 ha), which includes territories of up to 2 km round the buffer zones in the form of large private or public farms.
The beauty of these forests and their importance for the climate and clean air is undeniable. It can be accessed only within the transition zone.
Tourists are invited here to admire the multitude of shapes and colors offered generously by the old Codri. The forests are truly fascinating in autumn when the adorning color range grows visibly.
Recreational facilities (accommodation, meals, entertainment, sports) are designed in nature for all tastes and requirements. Leisure facilities within the forest reserve will charge your power batteries for a long time.
