Russia's humanitarian assistance for moldova
On Friday, a heavy-duty IL-76 freight airplane of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations delivered a 20-ton humanitarian assistance worth nearly US$1 million.
The consignment includes mobile power stations, rescue boats, emergency and rescue items etc. - all shipped by the Russian Government's decision in response to Chisinau's appeal to help alleviate the consequences of the recent ruinous flood on the Prut River.
Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Moldova Valery Kuzmin said at the cargo handover ceremony at the Chisinau International Airport that this assistance is an extra sign of traditional friendship ties existing between the two countries.
"Russia always stands ready to offer a helping hand in hard moments, though this year we ourselves came to face serious problems caused by natural fire disasters", said the diplomat.
Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat thanked the Government and people of Russia for the help, particularly for the power stations, which will be used at construction sites in flood-struck localities, where new housing is being built for now homeless disaster victims.
The Premier stressed, "This goodwill gesture by a friendly country is showing that the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation have normal relations that need to be further developed".
