Romanian Meteora (VIDEO)
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Today I invite you to a very special Romanian space, which hides lots of undiscovered mysteries. The little fortress Negru Vodă is located 22 km from Campulung-Muscel.
This little fortress was often referred to as Romanian Meteora considering the striking similarity with the Hermitage of Meteora in Greece. It is said in the local tradition that on the atop of the steep stone that sits between the Dambovita River and stream Cetatuia (Little Fortress) there was a resistance fortress from the time of Roman occupation. The fortress would have been the place of refuge and for the legendary Prince of Wallachia Negru-Voda, who had there and a cave of secret.
Rocky Valley of the stream Cetatuia is rich in caves, some natural, other angle with the chisel by hermits. Here were forced to stay many recluse monks, especially in the 14th-18th centuries.
The castle is built on the trails of an ancient Dacian settlement, where it is said that in the highest Priest himself lived in a cave, with other hermits, confirmed by various symbols engraved in the rock that can be found at any step, including one image of the most known of Thracian. There are many clues that support the hypothesis that there was one of the most important centers of spirituality, due to the forms of worship and ritual held at the perimeter.
In addition to the abundance of the symbols present at every step, in these places of legend, another element that invariably attracts attention of pilgrims is the presence of huge zoomorphic or anthropomorphic cliffs.
Also full of mystery are the imprinted traces in rock from cross wishes. Legend says that it belongs to Negru Voda, who, sheltering from the path of an Ottoman siege at the top of the mountain, would have asked along with his wife so hot the divine protection, that the feet have melted rock, leaving traces in it the old place.
Today, on the ancient Dacian settlement is founded an Orthodox monastery. The monastic complex is represented by a new church which houses the relics of St. Ioanichie of Valley Caves, which was discovered following a dream that had two young painters, hosted at the monastery overnight, and one old, carved in the rock, which where takes place a miraculous phenomenon - in the day of Spring of Healing, there springs a small spurt of curative water from the Rocky altar, which will cease to flow each year at Assumption.
In addition to the miracles that take place each year at this monastery, landscape that surrounds the monastery from all sides fascinates you determining to like the place from the first visit.
