Romanian journalist barred from entering Ukraine

Journalist Sergiu Dan, Romanian-Ukrainian national

Romanian journalist Sergiu Dan, holding Ukrainian citizenship, as well, has been barred from entering Ukraine during the next five years. The ban comes from the Security Services of Ukraine, although the journalist says he did not violate any laws.

Sergiu Dan told Moldova.ORG that he has already submitted a letter to the authorities from Kiev asking for an explanation.

“As far as I know, I am not the only one in this situation. There are 15 other Romanian nationals dealing with the same issue,” Mr. Dan said.

Up until now the reporter did not receive any letter from the Ukrainian authorities explaining the reason of his ban. The only answer he got was from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was told by the Ukrainian Ministry that everything related to his case is confidential and no additional information could be provided to the Romanian counterparts.

Sergiu Dan has been barred from entering Ukraine since January 24, 2012. The term expires on January 24, 2017.
