Report: LAPD has closed K-Fed case

Los Angeles police have closed an investigation into an alleged plot to kill aspiring actor Kevin Federline due to insufficient evidence, TMZ reported Monday.

The TMZ report contradicts a story Entertainment Today ran on its Web site earlier, citing sources that said the FBI and LAPD were actively investigating credible reports there was a contract hit out on Federline, Britney Spears' ex-husband and father of her two young sons.

ET quoted the sources as saying the FBI made attempts to contact Federline to inform him of the potential danger and said insiders at the FBI confirmed this was the bureau's standard operating procedure for when someone's life is threatened.

TMZ, however, said reports of an FBI probe were completely untrue.

"The information on the Internet on these reports is not accurate. It did not come from the FBI at all," an L.A representative for the FBI told TMZ.
