Professors from the University of Balti protest against replacing „Romanian language” with „Moldovan language”
Twenty six professors from the Chairs of „Romanian Language” and „Romanian and Universal Literature” signed a letter of protest, addressed to the Moldovan authorities, by means of which they ask „to give up the denigration linguistic policy and follow the scientific and historic truth”, DECA-press Agency transmits.
The letter of protest of the professors from Alecu Russo State University of Balti is a reaction of President Vladimir Voronin's initiative, according to which, from September 1st, 2008, the „Romanian language” will be replaced with... „Moldovan language” in the education field.
Professors declare that they protest against this initiative and are revolted about the declaration of Victor Stepaniuc, president of the specialized parliamentary commission, referring to the need of textbooks.
In case he insists on this policy, the 26 authors of the letter of protest „will actively protest, asking for the support of the whole society in this context”.
The authors of the letter call the authorities to reread a series of materials written by famous linguists of the world, according to whom the correct name of the language spoken on the territory of Republic of Moldova is Romanian.
We remind you that, recently, within a visit in Balti, president Vladimir Voronin asked the Balti authorities to replace on September 1st, the discipline „Romanian language” with „Moldovan language”. President Voronin declared that he would provide the institutions of education with the necessary textbooks in this context.
At the same time, the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Youth affirms that they had not been told about the intention of replacing the „Romanian language” in the schools from Moldova.
