Poverty level in Moldova becomes stable
The poverty level in Moldova remained at the same level, and did not go up due to the world economic crisis. The statement was provided by Minister of Labor, Family and Social Protection (MLFS) Valentina Buliga who now left the post during the election campaign.
Within the Friday television space bridge Chisinau-Kiev-Moscow-Erevan-Tbilisi dedicated to the International Day for the Poverty Eradication which is celebrated on October 17, she said "the stabilization occurred thanks to reformations conducted by the ministry".
"We passed to the social support providing via allowance assigning in 2009. Due to this, 38 thousand from 71 thousand families below poverty line receive regular aid", Buliga said.
According to her, there are 18 types of social allowances in Moldova today, including allowances for heating - to an amount of 130 lei (US$11).
Buliga said poor people in Moldova were 26.4$% of the population in 2008, and already 26.3% - in 2009.
"There usually live below the poverty line residents of rural area, 41.5% of poor families - are families with many children", Buliga said.
