Police seek extradition in Kerchner case

An American woman suspected in the death of a British student in Italy has been denied bail.

Amanda Knox, 20, of Seattle and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, 23, both were denied bail and remain in Perugia's Capanne jail, where they have been held since shortly after the Nov. 1 stabbing death of Meredith Kerchner, The Observer reported Sunday.

Kerchner may have been attacked after accusing Knox of stealing money from her, police investigator Edgardo Giobbi told the British newspaper.

Police want to extradite a third suspect, Rudy Hermann Guede, 20, from Germany, where he fled after Kerchner's death, The Observer reported.

Knox, Sollecito and Guede maintain they are innocent as does Diya "Patrick" Lumumba, who has been freed from jail but remains a suspect, police said. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
