Police probing trio of fatal shootings

Police in the Atlanta area Monday were investigating three fatal shootings, including one that left a 7-year-old boy dead and his sister critically injured.

Law enforcement officials said the other two shootings in which two died were related to each other but not to the shooting in which the child died, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

In the fatal shooting involving the boy, the suspect entered their home, went to an upstairs bedroom where the victims were sleeping "and opened fire," DeKalb, Ga., police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said. The girl, 15, was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Parish said the children's mother and grandparents and two other children, were asleep in downstairs bedrooms and weren't injured. Police said they have no suspects in the shooting.

Police said they were searching for a suspect in the other two shootings. Investigators said they believe the suspect killed the stepfather of an ex-girlfriend, then killed his ex-wife in another location. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
