Number of pneumonia cases up by 40 per cent in Moldova


The number of pneumonia cases increased by 42 per cent in the second week of 2011 against the first week.

The deputy director of the National Centre of Public Health, Stela Gheorghita, said that the number of lethal cases caused by acute upper respiratory infections hiked by 41 per cent.

One person died of A(H1N1) flu in Moldova since the beginning of the cold season. Another person died from B flu on this period. Three cases of flu had been confirmed by lab tests so far.

In Moldova's eastern districts, the number of cases of virosis increased by 50 per cent, while the number of pneumonia cases by 40 per cent. No case of A(H1N1) flu had been confirmed by lab tests there and five cases of seasonal flu had been reported.
