New Year night expected to be frosty in Moldova
The State Hydro-meteorological Service has forecast 9 and 14 Celsius degrees below zero on the New Year night.
The first deputy director of the service, Elena Plesca, has said that 28 December will bring about cloudy sky, snow, sleet, glazed frost and icy roads. The night air temperature will vary between -2 and -7 degrees and the day temperature between 0 and -5 degrees.
No essential precipitation was forecast for 29 December 2010 - 3 January 2011, with only light snow expected to fall in some regions.
On 29-30 December at night, the air temperature will oscillate between -7 and -12 degrees, on 31 December between -9 and -14 degrees and -3 - 10 degrees on 1-3 January.
During the day-time, the air temperature will vary between 0 and -6 degrees on the above period.
According to the State Hydro-meteorological Service's multi-annual data /1886-2009/ on this period, the highest air temperature in Chisinau was +15.9 degrees Celsius on 28 December 2000 and the lowest, -21.1 degrees Celsius, on 28 December 1996.
