Nelson Mandela celebrates his 94th birthday
South Africa celebrates Nelson Mandela’s International Birthday. He is 94-year-old. US President Barack Obama said in a statement that Mr. Mandela continues to be a model of personality committed to defend dignity, freedom and justice.
“On behalf of the people of the United States, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nelson Mandela on the occasion of his 94th birthday and the fourth annual Nelson Mandela International Day. Mandela’s extraordinary life and steadfast commitment to the principles of democracy and reconciliation continues to be a beacon for people of all backgrounds who strive for dignity, justice, and freedom,” Obama Family said in a press statement.
According to them, Nelson Mandela has changed the arc of history, transforming his country, continent, and the world.
Nelson Mandela is a prominent personality in South Africa. He was the President of the country from 1994 to 1999. He is known worldwide for his contribution in the defense of human rights and promoting reconciliation. His greatest achievement was his involvement in anti-apartheid actions.
Mr. Mandela also stayed 27 years in prison being sentenced for sabotage. After he was released, Nelson Mandela re-established freedom and democracy in South Africa.
