The relations between Moldova and France go trough one of the best period in their history at present. Speaker Marian Lupu made statements to this affect at a reception given by the embassy of France in Chisinau on 14 July on the occasion of this country's National Day.

"For Moldova, 14 July is a holiday of our French friends, whom we are grateful for the efforts they make so that Moldova be known both in France and outside it. The visits by representatives of the friendship group, and a recent visit by President of the French Senate Christian Poncelet represented an eloquent proof of the rise in the bilateral relations," Marian Lupu stressed.

The speaker emphasized that Moldova's affiliation with the Francophonie's movement simplifies the country's cooperation with France. The French language as foreign language is most massively taught in Moldovan schools, and those about 280,000 pupils who learn the French language aspire to scholarships in French universities.

"France supports Moldova's aspirations of integration into the European Union (EU). Our bilateral relations have been recently illustrated by the visit of President of the French Senate Christian Poncelet. To stimulate the economic relations between Moldova and France, the French embassy will set up a francophone business club in Moldova," Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Moldova Pierre Andrieu has said.

Pierre Andrieu stressed that school-leaving diplomas were handed to pupils from the bilingual classes who finished lyceums from Chisinau and other Moldovan settlements.

Attending the reception were ministers, MPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, representatives of the French Alliance. // Moldpres
