National Army military men take part in peacekeeping exercise in Odessa

A military peacekeeping exercise has started in Odessa region. Moldova is represented by a contingent of the National Army.

The Moldovan-Ukrainian exercise “Pivdeni 2008” (“South 2008”) is held in accordance with the bilateral cooperation plan between the Ministries of Defense of Moldova and Ukraine for this year, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense, Ala Diaconu, told REPORTER.MD.

According to Diaconu, the exercise will last from 7 to 12 July, hosted by the Shooting Range of the Mechanized Brigade No. 28 in Cernomorskoie settlement in Odessa region. The military men of the two armies will be trained to organize and hold a joint humanitarian operation in an ethnic conflict zone.

The Moldovan contingent consists of 31 military men of the Balti Brigade “Moldova”. Ukraine delegated the same number of representatives.

The exercises of this kind became a tradition. The first peacekeeping exercise between Moldova and Ukraine was held in 1998 at the Sirokii Lan Shooting Range. Last year, the bilateral exercise “North 2007” was hosted by the Bulboaca Training Grounds of Moldova.//REPORTER.MD
