In 2007, mother and fathers from the district of Ungheni preferred more to give their children Romanian names, names of some kings, according to the local General Register Office (GRO).
According to the chief of GRO from Ungheni, Svetlana Andries, last year, the most modern names in the district of Ungheni were: Beatrice, Bianca, Arina, Cristian, Alexandru, Crinu. The parents prefer giving their children names of kings: Filip, Carol, Ovidiu, Darius, Cezar. Such names as Eva or Cleopatra are also well-spread.
The more you approach the Prut River, the more Romanian the names are, the General Register Office concludes, cited by DECA-press Agency. Thus, in the birth certificates of the children from Cetireni, a locality situated close to Prut River, you can notice such names as: Laura, Claudiu, Marius, Mirela and Mihaela. In Petresti, there are such names as: Andreea, Daniel, Dumitrita, Augustin, Loredana.
At the same time, in the Eastern part of the district of Ungheni, there are many names of Slavonic origin such as: Daria, Oxana, Xenia, Serghei, Alexei, Veaceslav.
Last year, in the district of Ungheni, there were also some unusual names for this region. They are as follows: Atanasia, Toprak, Fadi, Karian etc. In 2007, there were recorded some cases when parents came back to the General Register Office to change their child’s name, because the priest refused to baptize their child’s name with the name chosen by them. // DECA-Press
