Moldova:The number of trafficked persons is increasing

By Larisa Muntean/ Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- Thousands of Moldovans are victims of trafficking. Ministry of Labour presents official dates where is said that last year 135 people were identified as victims of this phenomenon. NGO representatives said that in reality the number of moldovans who fall into the hands of traffickers is higher.

Thus, of the 135 people who are identified as victims of trafficking, 73 are women, 35 - children and 27 - men. Compared to 2009, it is an increase in the number of victims among the children. If two years ago they represented 18 percent of all victims, in 2010 already 26 percent of trafficked persons were children.

Most victims of trafficking are from Calarasi, Cantemir and Otaci districts. Statistics show that most trafficked women are originate from Rezina and Balti, and most children who are victims of this phenomenon are from Otaci and Calarasi districts.
