Moldovan shot at the border with Romania
Chisinau/ Moldova.ORG/ -- A 23 year-old man was shot at the border with Romania. Holding the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the man successfully crossed the Moldovan checkpoint. After he entered the Romanian checkpoint at Galati, the Romanian customs officers asked the man to stop and check his car. He refused to let the officers to go through his vehicle and turned around his car trying to escape back to Moldova, according to the news agencies.
The Moldovan was firstly warned and after that the customs officer has shot toward the man. As a result of the gunshot he got hurt in the chest. The Moldovan authorities called the ambulance and the man was brought to hospital in Cahul.
The Romanian authorities said that the man tried to cross the border with smuggling tobacco. Both sides of Prut River have initiated an investigation on the circumstances of the incident.
In a phone conversation Iurie Leanca, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova and his counterpart from Romania talked about the case and underlined the need of a thorough investigation and a permanent contact on the issue.
