Moldovan president asks for speeding up Soroca-Balti aqueduct's putting into operation

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has held a working meeting dealing with the activity of the aqueduct Soroca-Balti, according to the presidential press service.

The president expressed discontent with the implementation of a government decisions on putting into operation the aqueduct Soroca-Balti and building branch pipes in the settlements near it.

The head of state described as revolting torpedoing the project's implementation, taking into account the real possibilities the northern part of the country has to provide people with drinking water as compared with the more difficult situation in the southern districts.

We can no longer admit the delay in the decisions' fulfilment, which is caused by the indifferent attitude towards the citizens' vital problems and the lack of economic spirit, the president said.

Vladimir Voronin called on the government to determine, within ten days, jointly with district authorities concrete stages to complete the project and start the construction of the branch pipes at the aqueduct Soroca-Balti in the mentioned settlements. Voronin referred to the opportunity to identify additional sources to cover all the expenses related to the branch pipes' construction.

The president draw the attention of the Soroca and Balti leadership to the need to speed up the restoration and modernization of the water supply networks.

Attending the meeting were also Premier Vasile Tarlev, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Constantin Mihailescu, director of the territorial development agency Igor Semenovcher, the leaders of the districts Soroca, Floresti, Telenesti, Singerei, Drochia, and representatives of the Balti-based public administration. // Moldpres
