Moldovan population went down 4 thousand in 2010


The population size in Moldova, assessed on the grounds of newborn and dead people data, reached 3.56 million persons [without taking into consideration Transnistria] by January 1, 2011, which is 4 thousand less than 1 year ago.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the main population mass lives in rural area - 2.078 million persons. Most densely populated raions are Orhei - 125.9 thousand persons (+0.1 thousand); Cahul - 124.8 thousand persons (+0.4 thousand); Hincesti - 122 thousand persons (-0.9 thousand). Less people live in Besarabeasca - 29.2 thousand (-0.2 thousand).

The Chisinau population reached 789.7 thousand persons (+3.4 thousand); Balti - 148.1 thousand (+0.9 thousand). The population of the Gagauzian autonomy is 160.6 thousand persons (+0.5 thousand).

In conformity with the all-USSR [Union of Soviet Socialist Republics] of 1989, 4.3 million persons lived in the Moldavskaya SSR, including 700 thousand persons - at the Dniester left riverside.
