Moldovan Health Ministry denies pandemic flu cases, epidemiologists confirm


The Health Ministry has denied the existence of AH1N1 flu cases in Moldova, whereas the National Public Health Centre has confirmed seven cases of pandemic flu, including one lethal.

Health Minister Andrei Usatii old MOLDPRES that no case of AH1N1 flu had been recorded in Moldova. He added that the death of a woman in Ungheni last week "was caused by the A flu, which is a banal type of flu".

At the same time, the deputy director of the National Public Health Centre, Stela Gheorghita, said that the diagnosis of AH1N1 flu was confirmed for another six people by laboratory tests. She reiterated that the Ungheniresident died of this disease.

At a today's government meeting, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the swine flu makes victims in the region. Yet, he noted, there are no reasons for concern. At the same time, the prime minister asked the Health Ministry to take measures, so that the state institutions are prepared for coping with the spread of this flu virus.

Nine cases of flu have been confirmed all over Moldova, of which one of the B type (seasonal). Last week, a 25-year-old woman from Chisinau died because of the B-type flu.
