Moldovan children to benefit from new playground, sports equipment, library

Children from nine settlements will benefit from a new playground, sports equipment or a library supplemented with new books till late 2010.

The head of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family, Liliana Palihovici, told a news conference today that the nine social projects were selected at a tender, in which over 100 proposals for projects participated. Each of the winner projects will benefit from 37,000-57,000 lei (2,500-3,800 euros).

The money for projects was raised within the campaign Partnership for Children launched in Chisinau on 1 June. As a result of this action, over 300,000 lei has been collected from a charity concert, as well as from donations on behalf of private companies, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency.

At the same time, a deputy representative of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Moldova, Sandie Blanchet, noted that the initiative Partnership for Children was a new one. The initiative will encourage other private institutions to join this programme so as to make children's life better, Blanchet said.

The campaign Partnership for Children was launched at the initiative of the head of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family, Liliana Palihovici, along with UNICEF, UNFPA and a mobile telephony operator.
