Moldova will send a new contingent of military men to Iraq
The sixth contingent of National Army military men composed of 16 combat engineers and 4 general staff officers will be sent to Iraq on a post-conflict rehabilitation mission.
At its Thursday’s sitting, the Parliament adopted a draft decision to send military men of the National Army to Iraq to take part in the international post-military operation there by 85 votes.
Minister of Defense Vitalie Vrabie said that the 20 military men in Iraq will work under contract for a period of six months. He also said that the military men are prepared for the mission.
The 16 combat engineers will demine and annihilate explosive devices, destroy the military weapons that can be used for hostile purposes and train theoretically and practically the multinational coalition forces. 
The general staff officers will work as part of the General Staff of the Multinational Forces Command and will plan and coordinate military operations and civil-military cooperation operations.
Moldova has participated in the post-conflict operations in Iraq since 2003. During 2003-2007, Moldova sent to Iraq five post-conflict humanitarian missions including 86 military men employed on contract. The Moldovan bomb squads have liquidated about 338,000 explosive devices overall.//REPORTER.MD
