Moldova to remove barbed wire along its border with Romania
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat has ordered the removal of barbed wire along the border with Romania.
He was speaking at a cabinet meeting on 16 December while appointing Gen Alexei Roibu as head of the Moldovan Border Guard Service.
Roibu, 53, had headed the department for combating corruption and economic crime.
"You should prepare all documents regarding the removal of barbed wire from the border with Romania by the end of this week. It is a shame to keep barbed wire at the border with a friendly country in the 21st century, when borders across Europe are transparent and people can move freely," Filat said.
