Moldova reports decreasing water level in Prut, Dniester rivers

Water level on most segments of the Prut and Dniester rivers is decreasing, with some portions seeing however a slight increase, the Service of Civil Protection and Emergencies said on 17 July.

A press officer of the Service of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Liliana Puscasu, has told MOLDPRES that the water level dropped by 55 cm in northern Moldova and by 7 cm in the southern regions. Yet, the villages of Poganesti and Leuseni, Hincesti district, were still facing an 8-centimeter increase in the water level. Overflowing from the reservoir Costesti-Stinca on the Prut river decreased from 590 to 480 cubic metres per second.

The water level dropped on the Dniester river as well. Thus, the water fell by 10 cm on the beach of Vadul lui Voda, east of Chisinau. Ocnita district is an exception with an unessential increase in the water level being recorded there. Overflowing from the reservoir of Dubasari dropped to 1,350 cubic metres per second.

As many as 932 dwellings were affected by floods on the Prut river, of which 524 houses and 408 auxiliary constructions. As many as 2,862 people have been evacuated, of whom almost 700 children.
