Moldova celebrates Christmas today
By Valeriu Gonta / Chisinau / Moldova.org / -- The Christians Orthodox from Moldova celebrate Christmas today on the Russian calendar. It is one of the most important holidays of the year.
On this day the Christians go to church and pray for their health and success. It is also a great family holiday because everyone gets together and celebrates it by singing carols and having a big tradition dinner. The fastening period ends on this day.
Most of the Christians from Moldova celebrate Christmas on the Old Julian calendar, while the Romanians Orthodox mark it on the Gregorian calendar which is celebrated two weeks earlier.
Christmas is also celebrated today in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and other former Soviet countries.
Merry Christmas, Moldova!
