Moldova: 45 flood-hit settlements to benefit from assistance
Forty five Moldovan settlements, which suffered in the wake of the 2008 floods, will benefit from financial assistance.
The parliament ratified an agreement on additional financing for the Social Investments Fund II in Moldova (FISM II) worth five million dollars. The document was signed between Moldova and the International Development Association (IDA) in Chisinau on 4 May 2009, according to the Finance Ministry's protocol.
Finance Minister Mariana Durlesteanu said the five million dollars will be used to restore the destroyed roads, gas pipelines and aqueducts. Each village will receive 85,000 dollars for the restoration works, and each town 145,000 dollars.
The additional financing is issued in line with IDA's standard conditions for a repayment period of 40 years, a ten-year grace period, and a 0.75-per-cent annual interest rate.
