'Moderate' quake hits California
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of San Jose, Calif., Tuesday night.
"At this point we haven't had any reports of damage or injuries," Rafael Abreu of the U.S. Geological Survey told CNN.
The agency said the quake occurred shortly after 8 p.m. and was centered about nine miles northeast of San Jose, seven miles east of Milpitas and about five miles north-northeast of Alum Rock.
Abreu labeled the geological disturbance a "moderate" temblor that was fairly shallow and so likely caused "a pretty strong jolt" for people living in the area. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
