Mobility Partnership helps speed up Moldova-EU visa talks
The third meeting of the Moldova - EU Mobility Partnership was held in Chisinau this week. The event takes place one day after the EU foreign ministers had mandated the European Commission to speed up discussions with Moldova on the cancellation of visas for Moldovans.
The Mobility Partnership comes to provide higher protection to Moldovan immigrants in EU countries. It offers a platform for discussing legal migration, development and fight of illegal migration. By this instrument, the European Union wants to help Moldova manage the migration.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, a representative of the European Commission at the meeting, Frank Paul, said that "the Mobility Partnership served as a pre-condition for the EU foreign ministers to encourage the European Commission to speed up talks on a visa free regime for Moldova".
The European official said that the date of the first round of negotiations on visa cancellation will be set in a short time. The talks with the Moldovan government were launched last June.
Moldova's mobility partners are 15 EU member states with which Moldovan citizens have labour relations more often. This platform allowed Moldova signing agreements on the protection of its migrants with Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal and Luxembourg. A larger number of similar agreements are under negotiation.
The mobility partnership is an EU pilot project, carried out only with Moldova and the Republic of Cape Verde. At this meeting, the Moldovan and EU delegations reviewed the achievements and developing actions. The two sides welcomed the launch of this initiative of circular migration for Moldovan medical staff, who, after gaining money and experience in the EU, will return to Moldova to apply their knowledge.
The head of the Moldovan delegation at this meeting, Deputy Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Sergiu Sainciuc appreciated "the EU states' willingness to support Moldova to improve the migration and asylum management." "By the achieved results, the mobility partnership efficiently contributes to the dialogue on the visa regime, and respectively, to the European integration process," the deputy minister said.
