Man charged with killing 2 retired cops
A convicted bank robber was charged Saturday with killing two retired Philadelphia police officers as they serviced a bank ATM.
Mustafa Ali was to be arraigned later in the day, NBC 10 reported.
Ali was arrested within hours of Thursday’s robbery and shooting at a Wachovia bank branch. He was charged with using a bad check to pay for a lease on a black Acura that resembled one shown in a security video of the holdup.
Police sources said that Ali confessed to the crime, The Philadelphia Daily News reported.
The victims, William Widmaier and Joseph Alullo, were old friends who had retired after long service with the Philadelphia Police Department and gone to work for the same armored truck company. They were shot execution style while a third guard, who was driving the truck, was injured.
Police received tips from an employee of the Bucks County car dealer who leased the Acura and a resident of the apartment complex where Ali was arrested.
