Israel gives 20,000-euro-worth humanitarian aid to Moldovan flood victims
The Israeli government has given humanitarian assistance to Moldovan flood victims.
The humanitarian aid worth 20,000 euros reached Chisinau by air today. The assistance consists of 12 military tents and 1,000 special blankets. At a ceremony of handing the assistance, Israeli Ambassador to Romania Oren David said the aid came to prove the deep friendship relations between the two countries.
For his part, Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta said that this aid would be carried to the villages which were worst hit by the floods: Nemteni, Cotul Morii, Obileni and Sarateni, Hincesti district, central Moldova. Emergency commissions have been set up in these villages to assess the inflicted damages and to decide on the distribution of assistance, the minister added.
The tents given by the Israeli side will be offered to children who were not placed in leisure camps, flood-hit people and servicemen who help mitigate the consequences of floods.
This is the first consignment of assistance received from Israel. The second one will arrive today evening, and the third, the biggest one, next Sunday.
Israel is the third state to back the Moldovan flood victims. Earlier, Romania and Austria gave assistance to flood-hit people. Moldova also expects donations from Germany.
