Immigration into Moldova goes up by quarter
Over 2.5 thousand foreigners immigrated into Moldova last year - up 25.9% against 2009, the National Migration Bureau reported.
The largest proportion of the immigrants came to Moldova for family reunification (905 persons) and for studying (790). The number of jobseekers grew up by one-third reaching 814 people - mostly from Italy, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Turkey.
In 2010, over 3.3 thousand official invitations for foreigners were drawn up here - 66% more than in 2009.
At the moment, 3.4 thousand applications for such invitations are being considered, and only 98 applications were rejected last year. A majority of invitations for coming to Moldova were sent to citizens of Serbia, India, Syria, China and Nigeria.
In 2010, the Moldovan authorities reported over 2.1 thousand instances of violation of stay rules by foreign visitors from Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Azerbaijan - a 23.17% growth against 2009.
Presently, there are over 16 thousand immigrants staying in the Republic of Moldova, said the Bureau.
