Iasi and Chernivtsi became twin towns

Yesterday, on 6th October, a cooperative agreement between the cities Iasi and Chernivtsi was signed at the ceremony celebrating the day of Chernivtsi city. It was signed by the Secretary of Chernivtsi City Hall, Vitaly Myhailishin and Deputy Mayor of Iasi, Mihai Chirica, notes the online publication citizenjournal.info.

The agreement provides several joint social, economic and cultural activities. According to the source, the first steps in order Iasi and Chernivtsi to become twin towns were taken at the beginning of 2012 at the initiative of Romanian-Ukrainian Friendship Association. On 28th September 2012 Iasi City Council approved the project.

The cities of Iasi, Chernivtsi and Tighina were for the first time documented in the same act – the Franchise of 1408 given to merchants of Lviv since Alexandru cel Bun, the prince of Moldova.
