Hundreds protest in Chisinau against increased utility tariffs
Several hundreds of retirees on 30 September protested against the latest increase in tariffs on water supply and public transport fares in Moldova's capital, the Moldovan ProTV Chisinau channel has reported.
ProTV noted that the protesters asked for the abolition of a decision by the Chisinau municipal council, according to which the tariffs on water supply and public transport fares were almost doubled. They said that the offered compensations, about six dollars, were not enough to cover their needs, given that their pensions range from about 50 to 70 dollars, the television said.
The protests started on 29 September, when, according to its organizers, about 2,000 retirees participated in the rally, ProTV added.
