How Much Time Do Romanians Sing Christmas Carols? (VIDEO)

By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- Christmas carols are the most sincere and beautiful performance of Romanian soul. Carols, "these wonderful popular creations", have been preserved from generation to generation, and sounded every year without interruption in the homes of Christians in the Holy Night of Nativity, under the silver star of peace, on the evening of New Year and other holidays, being habitual for religious manifestations of our people.

But since when do the Romanians have this nice custom to sing about the Birth of Jesus Christ? It seems that carols are songs of the soul since ancient times, the times Christianization of Romanians.

As an integral part of religious folklore, the carols mean a priceless value by their oldness. They represent our ancestral song and one of the oldest forms of expressions of Romanian folklore and religion. Whatever there would be the opinion of specialists about this, one thing is certain, namely that they are very old, being created at the same time with the Romanian nation and Christianity spreading on our land.

Presence in our carols and traditional wishes of the name "Brother Trajan" reminds us of the colonization of Dacia by the Romans and of the ancestors of our nation. In the opinion of some people, ancient Christmas carols mostly would be those which have the chorus "Lerui-Ler", which would be archaic, as it seems, the religious word "Hallelujah".

Few nations in the world have accompanied the miracle of the coming of God's Son with a so warm and gentle hug and have expressed it so rich in artistic shapes, as did the Romanian people.

I decided today, on Christmas to select some of the most beautiful and old Carrols and who knows maybe you will find among them one that will sing in unison with your soul and that you will take time to play with friends and loved people.

Merry Christmas!
