The 2008 presidential elections in the United Stated has influenced the popular holiday of Halloween, which includes trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, and watching horror movies.

There will be no shortage of Obama, McCain and Palin costumes and rubber masks.

According to reports, masks of the presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are in high demand. Sarah Palin look-alikes wearing the Republican vice presidential nominee's signature red suit and black heels are among those items on sale. VP candidate Democrat Joe Biden, somehow, did not get as much attention.

Even masks of the now-famous 'Joe the Plumber' will be seen on trick-or-treaters this Halloween.

A resident of West Hollywood in California was pressured by local officials to take down a figure of Palin, identifiable by her trademark red jacket, glasses, heels and wig, which he had hung by a noose outside his home. This drew dozens of protesters to the neighborhood.

Halloween, with its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, and at times in parts of New Zealand. In Sweden the All Saints' official holiday takes place on the first Saturday of November.
