Government aims at creating best education conditions for pupils
Prime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in a ceremony of donating 10 busses to schools from Causeni and Riscani districts, the government's communication and press relations department has said.
The event took place in the Chisinau-based Great National Assembly Square. The action is a part of a project meant to enhance the quality of education in the rural area and launched in 2006 by the Education Ministry with the financial support of the World Bank.
The event was attended by the World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett, Education Minister Leonid Bujor, pupils and teachers from the two districts.
Vlad Filat congratulated the beneficiaries of the project, mentioning that the government was willing to create the best education conditions for pupils. "Education is the government's top priority and we will further undertake actions to this end," Filat said.
The premier said that the government wanted to repair roads leading to schools, so that children are transported not only in comfortable busses, but also on modern roads.
Filat thanked the World Bank for its constant support for the Moldovan education sector. He wished the children good luck with their studies.
For her part, Melanie Marlett stressed that the World Bank was supporting Moldova because education was the government's top priority.
She praised the Education Ministry's successful management of the project. Melanie Marlett added that quality studies could be ensured only in institutions provided with the necessary equipment and resources.
"I am glad that we succeeded in buying these busses now, before the beginning of the school year," Marlett said.
For his part, Education Minister Leonid Bujor said that the 10 busses were produced in Poland in line with a German technology. He thanked the World Bank for accepting the government's request to extend the project by two years.
"Due to this project, we will be able to buy not only new transport means, but also IT and furniture for rural schools," Bujor said.
The busses will transport more than 1,200 children from Riscani and Causeni districts, who study in eleven district schools, situated at 3-10 kilometers from their venues of residence.
The project's main goal is to make quality education accessible for poor children and to enhance the efficiency of the education services.
