Geese threaten New York City

Elena Vnorovscaia/ Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- It has been decided in New York to prepare food from geese for Pennsylvanian beggars.

These Canadian geese are living for a long time now in New York's airports and will be prepared as dishes for down-and-outers. As it is planned, the New York authorities will catch about a thousand birds.

Cooking wild birds will become an alternative solution for combating the geese number growth, because till present times geese have been shot and buried.

New York authorities had to resort to such drastic measures to reduce the increasing number of geese in 2009. It was caused by that year’s incident - Airbus was forced to make an emergency landing due to birds that got to engines.

Since that time workers in the parks near the airport have begin to catch birds, and then to bury them.

Critics of the project claim that using geese for cooking is not such a good solution, because the meat of these birds is a hardly healthy one. So the quality of the food would be very low.

The costs of geese disposal and transportation will be financed from the New York budget. However, the cost of this project is currently unknown.

The offerers to let the geese to become dishes for beggars are the employees of the Department of Environment of New York.
