Gas pipe explodes near Chitcani village

An explosion of large proportions, which resulted into a fire, took place this morning, near the village Chitcani, on the segment of the pipe Ananiev-Tiraspol-Ismail.

Liliana Puşcaşu, the press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergency Service, has said to BASA-press that the explosion took place in the morning of April 1, at about 05:30, at the gas pipe between Copanca and Chiţcani villages from Căuşeni district.

The sulf of the explosion penetrated the ground provoking a hole of over 100 square meters. “Fortunately, the pipe that exploded is in open field and the fire affected no person. As a result, a large hole was formed on a distance of some meters”, Puşcaşu said.

To liquidate the consequences of the accident and the fire, the MoldovaGaz representatives suspended gas supply on the segment Tiraspol-Căuşeni. The representatives of the Civil Protection and Emergency Service, of MoldovaGaz and the orderly forces have gone to the place of the accident, according to the quoted source.

The causes of the deflagration have not been found yet.
