Gas closes part of Newark Airport
Authorities at Newark (N.J.) Airport were unable to identify a mysterious gas that sickened several people and closed part of a terminal.
The smell, likened to natural gas, delayed several hundred travelers Saturday as security personnel shut down a checkpoint in Terminal B for several hours, The New York Daily News reported Sunday.
"People were gagging. It brought tears to my eyes and my nose clogged up," said Carmen Vargas, an employee of Homewords Bound bookstore in the airport.
Newark fire and utility officials were unable to detect a gas leak or find the source of the smell.
Several security workers and passengers were treated for nausea and dizziness, Port Authority spokesman Pasquale DiFulcor told the News // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
