April frosts damaged about 30% of gardens and vegetable plantations of Moldova, experts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry consider.

Public Relations Officer of the ministry Veniamin Balan said that low temperatures influenced negatively plantations of early cabbage and other vegetables, planted in open ground, nurseries of fruit seedlings, peach and apricot gardens, nut trees, which are in their early vegetation period or at their blossoming stage.

The central and southern raions of the country suffered from frosts particularly much.

According to preliminary data, the extent of the damage of early fruit plantations accounted for 30 to 80%, and fruit and vegetable plantations – from 20 to 30% depending on the locations of plants and frost protection measures. Early walnut varieties suffered from frosts very much, as well. Only apple gardens did not suffer, as they were at a development state.

In order to prevent possible frost consequences, agriculturists must take such measures as placing bee families near gardens in the ratio of 3 families per a garden and spraying.

Meteorologists do not rule out the abrupt temperature fall in the middle of May, as well. Agriculturists must prepare beforehand materials for smoke screens.
