Four civilians, 3 police killed in roadside bombs in Afghanistan

Kabul (dpa) - Four civilians were killed when a roadside bomb went off near an Afghan police vehicle in western Herat province, while three policemen were killed and two others were wounded in similar attack in south-eastern Afghanistan, an official said Thursday.

The first bomb was detonated on Thursday morning in Puli-e- Afghan area, close to the airport of relatively peaceful western Herat province when an Afghan border police vehicle was passing, Interior Ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

"Four civilians passing by the area were killed and another four were wounded while two policemen in the vehicle were also wounded," Bashary said.

Meanwhile, three Afghan policemen were killed and two were wounded also Thursday morning when a roadside bomb exploded near their joint convoy with NATO forces in Yaqoobi district of south-eastern Khost province, Bashary said.

He said that there no damage or casualties among the NATO forces.

Afghanistan has faced the bloodiest violence this year since the fall of Taliban regime in 2001. The insurgency has resulted more than 4,000 casualties mostly of the militants this year.  // © 2006 DPA
