Five die in British plane crash (Photos)
Two planes collided over England Sunday, killing all five people aboard the aircraft, officials said.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said debris from the first plane hit the ground in a field about five miles from Coventry Airport at 11.42 a.m. local time (Aug. 17), The Sunday Telegraph reported. The unidentified pilot of the first plane, the only person on board the single-engine aircraft, died on impact, the newspaper said.
The second aircraft, believed to be a twin-engine Cessna 407, went down about a mile away in a wooded area. Four people in the plane were confirmed dead at the scene.
"Thankfully nobody was nearby when the debris came down," said Murray MacGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service.
"Sadly there was nothing that could be done other than the grim task of confirming the deaths of the five people." // © 2008 United Press International, Inc.
