The European Commission (EC) will continue providing Moldova with a financial support for the education sector upgrading.

At the meeting of Minister of Education Mihai Sleahtitchi with EC regional coordinator for Moldova Angelo Borgogni, the parts considered financing priorities for 2012-2013 taking into account the structural reforms in general education, as well as vocational, secondary and higher education.

The Minister said that Moldova needs to upgrade the education sector within interest groups, as well as the higher education system. It is necessary to also implement adult population education projects.

"Educational institutions need high-skilled teachers and an upgrading in conformity with European standards, which means - a re-equipping to hold practical trainings", Sleahtitchi said.

He said that, as far as the country undergoes a modernization process, it is necessary to make higher-education people to advance their skills, and school-leavers to get an access to high-quality education.

Sleahtitchi thanked the European Commission for the aid worth of €13 million provided for 60 projects in the education sector since 1993.

The EC representative asked about results of the projects implemented within 3 years, namely TEPUS (on adjusting Moldovan higher education in conformity with the Bologna Process), as well as results of the Erasmus Mundus program (on providing scholarships to Moldovan youth to have post-university education in European countries).
